The 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 5 to 15, 2024.[1]
Key programming announcements
The first programming announcements were released on June 18, 2024.[2] A second batch of films was announced on July 9,[3] with further announcements expected in July. The full festival schedule is set to be released on August 13, 2024.[2]
To date, only films that will be world premieres have been announced; films for which the TIFF screening would not be a world premiere will be included when complete lineup announcements are released later in the month, but are not normally highlighted in the first batch of preview announcements.
Awards
The TIFF Tribute Awards recipients will include David Cronenberg as recipient of the Norman Jewison Award, and Amy Adams as a recipient of the performer award.[4] Although Cronenberg's new film The Shrouds, which premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, was not one of the first six films announced on June 18, his status as a Tribute Awards recipient is indicative of its inclusion in a followup announcement, as the Tribute Awards recipients are normally selected from among people connected to films screening in the program.[5]
Cate Blanchett has been announced as the recipient of the Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award for women who have made a positive difference in the film industry.[6] She will also be the guest at an In Conversation with... event; similarly to Cronenberg, her inclusion as a Tribute Awards recipient suggests the likely inclusion of Guy Maddin's film Rumours in a forthcoming program announcement.
