Brandt–Daroff exercises

Purpose:

The Brandt-Daroff exercises are primarily used to treat a specific type of vertigo called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). BPPV is caused by tiny calcium crystals (otoconia) becoming dislodged from their normal position in the inner ear and migrating into the semicircular canals. This dislodgment triggers false signals to the brain, resulting in the sensation of spinning or dizziness.

The Brandt-Daroff exercises aim to:

Dislodge and Reposition Crystals: The repetitive movements of the exercises help to dislodge the displaced crystals and guide them back into their proper position within the inner ear. Habituation: The exercises also promote habituation, which means that over time, the brain becomes less sensitive to the confusing signals caused by the displaced crystals. This can lead to a reduction in the frequency and severity of vertigo episodes. Who They're For:

The Brandt-Daroff exercises are often prescribed for individuals with BPPV. However, they are not suitable for all types of vertigo. It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if these exercises are appropriate for your specific situation.
