The Pit and the Pendulum [3] (sh. Jama i klatno) je američki horor film snimljen 1961. godine u režiji i produkciji Rogera Cormana, poznat kao jedno od komercijalno najuspješnijih i najuticajnijih ostvarenja žanra sa početka 1960-ih.

Predstavlja adaptaciju istoimene priče Edgara Allana Poea, iako ju je scenarist Richard Matheson iskoristio tek u završnim sekvencama filma. Radnja je smještena u Španiju u 16. vijeku, gdje, protagonist, čiji lik tumači John Kerr, dolazi kako bi istražio tajanstvenu smrt svoje sestre (čiji lik tumači Barbara Steele) te se pri tome suočava sa duhovima, stravičnim otkrićima, ali i time da mu šurjak (čiji lik tumači Vincent Price) postepeno gubi razum.

Cormana je na snimanje potakao uspjeh ranijeg filma House of Usher, također adaptacije Poeove priče gdje je Price također tumačio glavnu ulogu. Za glavnu žensku ulogu je, pak, angažirana britanska glumica Barbara Steele, koja je nedugo prije toga imala zapažen nastup u italijanskom gotskom hororu La maschera del demonio; nastup u The Pit and the Pendulum ju je, pak, učinio svojevrsnom ikonom žanra. Film je snimljen uz relativno nizak budžet, ali je Corman, koristeći fotografiju u boji Floyda Crosbyja, scenografiju Daniela Hallera i muziku Lesa Baxtera stvorio niz upečatljivih prizora koji su impresionirali i publiku i kritiku. Corman je nakon toga sljedećih nekoliko godina snimio još šest filmova temeljenih na Poeovim pričama koje tvore poseban ciklus.
